Effects of alcohol addiction

The impact of alcohol on your body begins when you take your first drink. Taking alcohol once in a while constitutes no problem. However, it becomes a cause for concern when you take it regularly without warning.

Alcohol addiction is the end-results of alcohol abuse. And the effects of alcohol is different across persons. For some people, it is easy for them to control their drinking. For others, it is challenging to control their alcohol consumption.

Defective digestive and endocrine glands

Taking too much alcohol makes the digestive and endocrine glands dysfunctional. When much alcohol is taken, the digestive enzymes manufactured by the pancreas are abnormally activated. The enzymes buildup causes inflammation also called pancreatitis.

If pancreatitis is left untreated for a long time, it results in serious complications.

Inflammatory damage

The liver helps to break down and eliminate harmful substances in the body, especially alcohol. However, when you take alcohol in the long-term, the normal functioning of the liver is hampered. More so, it increases the prospects of liver disease and liver inflammation.

Scar tissue is formed and it destroys the liver. As the liver gets damaged over time, it becomes challenging to remove the toxic substances from the body.

It is imperative to note that liver disease is deadly and it induces waste and toxins buildup in the body.

Unstable Sugar levels

The pancreas aids in regulating the body’s insulin usage and its response to glucose. If the pancreas and liver are not functioning well, there is a good chance of experiencing hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. Furthermore, if the pancreas is damaged, it can prevent the body from producing ample insulin for sugar utilization.

This causes excess blood sugar or hyperglycemia. If your body cannot balance and manage the blood sugar levels, you will experience some side effects and complications associated with diabetes.

Central Nervous System

One easy way to know the impact of alcohol on your body is understanding its effect on the CNS. Alcohol addiction makes your feet and hands numb. It also makes it challenging for you to create long-term memories
